Can I get a full HDTV NTSC / ATSC / QAM bought in the U.S. in countries where the signal is usually PAL?
In theory, no. In reality it depends on the TV. Some of them have quietly PAL support. Either are actually listed somewhere on a spec sheet or it just kind of swept under the carpet. If it is swept under the carpet, then you are looking for a PAL source to test to be sure. We bought an HDTV from Costco a while back, for the office. We used the NTSC. But one days agreed feeding PAL signal and see what happened. What would you know, he played it back. It never said anywhere that it would, but did it anyway. We had to go all component, composite is in not good enough (HDMI would probably also work). Finding a PAL source, although perhaps easier said than done (if you want to test it). If you know of someone in professional film / tv gear they could do. Until they have a high-end video card with component or HDMI out and a NLE with some 25fps/50i footage. But depending on where you live, that would be a great order.
