Image quality on a HD projection TV?

I've recently been offered a cheap HD projection TV from a friend when up assessment, but not really know the difference other than that they are not as 'thin' as LCD or plasma. Is the picture quality as well as (just looking to run at 720p) a LCD / plasma, or is it noticably worse? At the moment, I do not know the manufacturer or the model, so just looking for general advice. Thanks for your help. If it helps, the TV is about 2 years old.

Depends - The new generation of rear projection TVs using the Intel chipset have very good photos and are only slightly thicker than an LCD / Plasma TV. It is very unlikely is that your friend would give you one of these and in this case - the projection TV is terrible for the image quality yet - we have a typical two years back talking about a rear view projection of reduced quality - the picture is OK, look out straight, but a different angle and it is bad to awful - do not bother - thank him / her for the offer, but they are really crap
