KS3 maths, also known as Key Stage 3, is a program designed to help develop stronger, more applicable skills for math students and help them excel in the areas where they are struggling. Math application is one of the weakest concepts that American students master, and the more helpful a program can be, the more students start to grasp more than just memorization.
The greatest lingering problem in our math classes is memorization versus comprehension. Memorizing is a systematic memory skill developed to come up with right answer. It's about being able to apply math concepts to the appropriate areas of their education and to be able to compete in a world where math is becoming increasingly important. Not all kids struggle with the courses. Even a child that is getting good grades in their courses can have large gaps in concept application.
The KS3 maths program works well with the KS4 maths program provided that the student has a strong mastery of the Ks2 maths program. You want to ensure that your child has a strong ladder to climb when developing their mathematical skills, and making sure that they have a mastery level that makes them ready for the KS3 maths program is essential. Otherwise they are just trying once again to develop skills through basic memorization because they are missing previous concepts.
Not all students have great difficulty with math but plenty of students who are bringing in good grades in the subject still have difficulties with the process of application. This can be a good way to help them develop their conceptualization so that application skills are more aligned in their learning process. Being able to apply math skills is essential to the development of higher learning.
Children that are just scraping by have found that the skill sets and the design of the KS3 maths program have been able to help them overcome some or most of the missed learning that will help them come out ahead of the class in this term. Recognizing previous skills and understanding them in their conceptual form helps students develop their new skills with much greater success.
Students that excel in math skills can develop a much stronger ability to develop their overall comprehension. Students that excel in English and art courses can start to see math as another language and develop the skills necessary for "reading" it versus memorizing it. This is where parents can step in and help form positive concepts regarding math, introduce their child to the advantages of the KS3 maths program, and get them application help to grow into a strong student with mathematical capabilities.
